Accumulation: Final

There was little interest in this exercise towards the end. It was a project of endurance. At the beginning I had a certain idea that I was going to try to communicate by collecting these angels. What happened was an experience with much more organic qualities. Wandering between different aspects of angels and how they manifest had a kind of dynamic quality. Much more interesting than a cohesive idea with all pieces merely a repeat of the next.

What I have learned is a greater understanding of how thoughts can morph into multiple variations. A sense of there being greater than one singularity. A world within a a single motif.

Accumulation: Week #8

Perhaps what is most evident now is the feeling that it is difficult to collect every week. It is stale in my mind. This wasn't expected but it is clearly how collecting things out of my way will lead. Gathering materials for projects is always a mundane task and I believe this has fallen into that category. I lose attention quickly.

Besides that, I have this angel in my office and never look at it. In fact, I had forgotten that I put it there. At the time I placed it there I also put the captain's hat with the sarcastic/cliché thought
of retirement. I also store my 6" ruler there. My job is not a fulltime. So, it's a rather ridiculous thought. Kind of morbid with ideas of death.

Accumulation: Week #6

Angels are ethereal at best, mostly nonexistent. Emotional, irrational, lovely, catalyst of God. Made of paper, glue, wires, feathers, plastic, clay, reflections of light, and stains on any surface imaginable. Sent to help until the afterlife is reached.

Arthur C. Clark wrote a book called Childhood's End.

Accumulation: Week #5

I had the opportunity to wander around a church. It is, more specifically, the church where I am considered a member and I do not attend. If there is a a perfect place to find angels this should be it, but there was only one to be seen. Going through all of the church, except the sanctuary, there were more than a dozen rooms. Just a single small poster with an emotional poem, of course, the chruch was rather spartan with most of the decorations made by children. This room was likely not used by children so their embellishments were nowhere to be seen.

As I remember in the example artist I looked at early on there was always small epiphanies. Know there is the view that what I am really collecting is the forms angels take around me while they also affect the perception of my reality. In a way they are acting as a catalyst for the more acute viewing of the world that surrounds me.

Accumulation: Week #4

It's amazing how much words in a book can influence the world, the funny thing is how far of our minds wander once we close the book. What is it that skews angels to being so nice with soft wings? Well, they(or God) destroyed Sodom, I don't think that was very polite. Perhaps the words are merely a catalyst for thoughts of individuals and are plastic in their meaning. The Bibles words could be purely unnecessary for their existence or longevity of their survival. I've always seen it as these winged beings started one day by flying from the Bible, not exactly realistic. Then again, is the Bible realistic?

Accumulation: Week #3

While thinking about angels, I remembered seeing one in Greece. Last summer I went on the Greece and Istanbul tour with Frakes. After a few days of going in the occasional tourist shop most of the merchandise becomes mostly monotonous. Then I happened upon this angel. The surprise it invoked from me was odd but it seemed as though this angel represented some sort of purpose. It had purpose to its existence. Part of its reason of being was to transcend all the earthly culture it was surrounded by while at the same time showing the others to existential peace. Of course, it could have been by coincidence that I thought this.

Accumulation: Week #2

This evidence was serendipitous and the capture was unexpected until the situation presented itself. It rarely snows here. Hopefully I will be able to have other situations lead to more unexpected subjects. Collection of the evidence has lead me to think that I should try to step up my methods to be more in sync with police or other gatherers of evidence. Of course, I could look for methods and, for lack of a better term, "style" on the internet. I work with the wife of the sheriff of Lincoln county so I will see if I can find out methods through this source first. As far as content, I believe it will grow more complex as the collecting goes forward.

Accumulation: Week #1

The interest in Shan Raoufi's project lays largely in the in the element of the variable. Reactions were recorded by the artist in a vulnerable state, both physically and emotionally. To me the importance is the overall interaction and how the they are received by the varying social strata.

Irene Chan's project deals with product packaging and retail practice which is not normally seen in the conscious mind of the consumer, Essentially, creating evidence that can be seen in a form that is removed from its primary existence. Altering the view of the original source material is interesting.

I plan to collect evidence of angels. The evidence will only be seen in written or photo documentation. Collecting will take the evidence one step further from its origin. Where evidence is normally used to prove something true, mine is to show a rather ridiculous formation of proof. Perhaps it will be mocking towards the popular idea of angels.
